A Successful year for GENuS
The last year has seen delivery of new build and maintenance programmes on an unprecedented scale for the Consortium. The GENuS commitment to collaboration has ensured we exceeded our targets.
Delivering new homes
GENuS has worked closely with the Welsh Assembly Government and its local authority partners investing over £60 million in its development activities during the past year. 375 quality affordable homes have been delivered for local people across South Wales.
As part of its new build development programme, GENuS attracted an additional £7 million of Social Housing Grant and Strategic Capital Investment Fund from the Welsh Assembly Government – 40% more than its original £17.4 million allocation for the year – and spent every penny of it!
The highly successful delivery of GENuS’ new homes programme continues to make a major contribution to the supply of high quality, local affordable housing across South Wales.
Improving customer’s homes
During 2008/9 GENuS delivered repairs and improvements with a value of nearly £17M.
This included the Consortium’s largest ever WHQS investment of £11M in over 1,000 homes.
Its collaborative maintenance framework continues to achieve impressive cost efficiencies of around £500,000 a year. This money is reinvested to improve more homes.
GENuS has…
- Created 48 training placements and apprenticeships with local contractors working across GENuS’ development and maintenance frameworks, despite the downturn in the UK housing market.
- Completed more than 2,800 energy efficiency improvements in our customers’ homes (such as loft and cavity insulation, modern condensing boilers, and window replacements). This created a potential reduction of over 2,000 tonnes of CO2 each year across our stock, and a possible reduction to residents’ domestic energy bills of more than £350,000 per annum (up to £150 per household).
